Oberkampf

by Apple Rabbits

A limited edition vinyl EP from Jay Fisher's project Apple Rabbits, cut by Gearbox Records.  Complex and beautiful music; at times haunting and at other times jarring but always intriguing. 'Oberkampf' Opens with the title track and begins with a stark and melodic arrangement for two violas, whilst playful Namco style square waves scurry around in the back of the mix. Angular blues guitar, and minimal drums, bass and vocal bring the piece to an odd balance. In 'Crying Murder in the Street' handclaps provide the staccato rhythm a la 50's acapella street corner Combos, chiming bells, flute and dark viola close to a sudden fade-out. 'Memory' is haunted radio Interference from space, and Fisher's understated vocals which echo across the airwaves perfectly, counterpointed by doomed viola arrangements. Viola also dominates track 4, the instrumental ''A Coup De Chapeau a Phillippe Sarde': Perfect Saturday night music, if your idea of a great night-out is a John Carpenter movie with Scott Walker At the Secret Cinema.

The first vinyl EP from Apple Rabbits & the first release since 2012s Kilburn State.
